One of the things I love about using the World-Wide Web is coming across collections of things. Throughout much of human history I would guess that there have been people who kept things ... just because they were able to do so. Some of our modern museums and galleries started from such personal collections.
The 'Web' has allowed collectors to show off their collectibles to a much wider audience. The 'WWW' has probably also given rise to collections that would never have seen the light of day previously.
The following list is just a few that I've come across :
- a collection of antique radios and related items (the picture at the top is from this site)
- re-purposed railcars - mostly American train coaches
- a collection of bank robbery notes - includes pictures of the "perps"
- Graham Barker's navel lint - we'd call it belly-button fluff
- old computers at the Old-Computers site (featured in previous CCS-PK posts)
- the Microcar Museum - otherwise often known as 'bubble cars' (on CCS-PK before)
