ISS after 10 years

Earlier this month there were two anniversaries connected with space exploration.

ISS 1998

November 20th 1998 saw the launch of the first module of the International Space Station (ISS). In space it looked as shown above.

Now, 10 years later, with a large number of additional parts and equipment the ISS is much bigger and can be seen in the picture below. You can still make out the original, Russian-made, Zarya module at the heart of the structure.

Saturn V

Earlier this month there were two anniversaries connected with space exploration.

Saturn V launch

November 9th 1967 saw the first launch of the mighty Saturn V rocket which, amongst other things, carried the various Apollo missions. It was the largest of its kind back then and even now, 41 years later, still is.

3D image technology

Gizmodo has a nice article about the various techniques available for allowing us to see 3D images and video.

It works its way from the simple 3D glasses with their red and blue filters to current ideas on 3D screens and plasma holography.

Big Ambition

Big Ambition is a new website aimed at 14-19 year olds to show the "dream" jobs that are available in the tech world.

The site features information about companies, careers and people involved in a host of different areas.

There are also competitions - the current one has the prize of a weeks work experience at ITV and laptop too. (There are several runner-up prizes too.)

Katherine Gleave (shown above) is one of the featured individuals. She is a Multimedia Designer who says that the benefits of her job are :

  • Flexible hours (part-time roles are available if required).
  • Social environment.
  • Big growth industry inline with the online success!
  • Good pay with great career prospects if you can prove you are good at your job and gain a few blue chip / creatively stylish websites under your belt.
Find out what's required if you're going to be able to forge an exciting career in a technology-based environment.
