Re-imagining everyday objects.

To quote directly from BoingBoing :

"This Swiss design firm challenged designers to repurpose everyday objects in imaginative ways -- like this tennis-ball earmuff. There are some really great results there, from a greenhouse built out of transparent CD jewel cases to fake fingernails made out of postage stamps."

The site is in German - but for those of you who cannot read it - don't worry - the pictures speak for themselves.

Now ..... can you come up with some ideas of your own?

The God Delusion

the book - The God Delusion

earlier book - The Selfish Gene

Available to buy for a little while now Richard Dawkins book - "The God Delusion" - puts forward a powerful case for atheism by demolishing any reasons for belief in a 'supernatural' being.

Dawkins has written several important books in his time - for example, "The Selfish Gene" which makes the case for evolutionary theory.

It was in this book that Dawkins proposed the idea of a 'meme' - you can read more about that elsewhere - do a search for yourself.

And - read more about Richard Dawkins here at (good old) Wikipedia.

Nikon D80 camera - transparent

You certainly could not have made a camera with a transparent case back in the days of film.

Whether this is actually desirable or cool is another matter - but it is interesting all the same.

The ten most beautiful cars - ever

C-Net news have a link to the AutoMotoPortal where they've selected their most beautiful cars of all time.

A lot of you should recognise the car above - it became famous following an appearance in a recent John Travolta movie. Personally I find it "over-pimped" but I've used the picture as it IS at least based on the car I think is best.

Detailed scale model

A couple of entries about cars this week.

Gizmodo has an article with some excellent links which describes how a Frenchman painstakingly created a detailed, one-third-size model of a Ferrari 312. Fantastic work and craftsmanship.

You can work out for yourself how long it took him as the article says how many hours he spent on the project.
