Weblogs and columns - 4

Dilbert - cubicle life.
I make no apologies for featuring Dilbert again - it's funny. I've not linked to one because they only stay online for about 2 weeks before removal so the item above is from a picture I have saved elsewhere.
I read quite a few columns, weblogs and sites every day. This week a small selection of some that I read each day. All provide a 'RSS feed' and so can be accessed with a 'RSS reader'.

Weblogs and columns - 3
suchlike.net - the news, condensed to haiku form.
Matt Blair publishes a more 'normal' weblog but each day chooses one news item to put into haiku form. Elegant, concise - yet with lots of links.
For example, this item from last week:
"No weakness" says Blair...
But the Brits' role in Iraq
seems far from certain.

Weblogs and columns - 2
spacetoday.net - the final frontier perhaps. The name is a bit of a giveaway - this site concentrates on news about space exploration and activities.
The picture shows a post about the Da Vinci Project involved in the race for the X-Prize.
By coincidence, this post comes the day after the Virgin Group announced the formation of 'Virgin Galactic' - a new company to take tourists into space. SpaceToday has an article about this.

Funfurde - cool furniture. This weblog features interesting and novel furniture ideas from around the world.
The picture illustrates a post from last week about a lamp that stands up when you enter the room and lies down when the room is empty.

Tessellations
Another type of graphic site today - this one is called 'Tessellation World'. There's a few Japanese characters but it is mostly in English and easy to navigate. The animations section is especially good in my opinion.
You've probably talked about or even created some tessellations in Maths lessons so there's no need for me to explain more.
Visit the site for some great images.

Original Google hardware
Continuing the Google theme for just one more post - here at the Wayback Machine they have a page showing the original hardware that gave Google its start in life.If you scroll down to the 6th picture you'll see they used Lego to hold together a bunch of hard disk drives - and you know how I like Lego items.

Google logos - part 7
Unless you are very new to all this Internet malarkey you'll have used Google a fair bit and may even have spotted their logo changing to reflect various events.
This week we feature a few of those Google logos from 2004.

Every day should be counted as 'this' day - can you work out - or remember - what this celebrated?
No cheating either, I'll put answers up tomorrow.

Light pollution

NASA has an 'Astronomy Picture of the Day' site - surprisingly - updated each day.
Back on 22nd August 2004 their picture was one that showed the Earth at night.
Stitched together from hundreds of individual satellite photos the effect of human habitation is clearly visible. (Click on the picture itself to see the full-size version).
